NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The North Kingstown Fire Department says a 59-year-old male is in critical condition after a steel plate fell on his leg.
At 2:20pm, North Kingstown emergency communications received a report of a large steel plate falling and crushing a worker’s leg at Anvil International.
At the scene, firefighters and Anvil staff were able to stabilize the man and lift the plate off his leg, which weighed approximately 1,500 pounds, according to the North Kingstown Chief Scott Kettelle.
Due to traffic conditions and the amount of time it took to get the plate off, the man was flown by helicopter to the Rhode Island Trauma Center at Rhode Island Hospital.
The two-inch steel plate is reported to be two-feet-wide and 10-feet-long.
